Yetu Festival #2: Boys II Men Edition
The Stanbic Yetu Festival is back and will take place on Saturday June 10th 2023 in Nairobi.
This year, we are pleased to announce the headline act as Boyz II Men
Boyz II Men is one of the world most iconic group. The group has redefined popular music and continues to create timeless hits that appeal to fans across all generations, penning and performing some of the most celebrated and best-known classics of the past two decades
The group's four Grammy Awards are just the tip of the iceberg. Throughout their 25-year career, Boyz II Men have won an incredible nine (9) American Music Awards, nine (9) Soul Train Awards, three (3) Billboard Awards, and the 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well and a Casino Entertainment Award for their acclaimed residency at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, which has been ongoing since 2013.
The group’s mega hits include “End Of The Road”, I’ll Make Love To You”, “One Sweet Day”, “It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday”, “Motownphilly” and “On Bended Knees”. We expect Kenya to witness the greatest music show this year.
Kenya is the first leg of their first
ever Africa tour. They will also perform in Uganda and South Africa
The group are currently a trio composed of baritone Nathan Morris alongside tenors Wanyá Morris and Shawn Stockman . The group gained international success in 1991, beginning with the release of top 5 singles "Motownphilly" and " It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday ." Their number one single " End of the Road " was released in 1992, and topped music charts across the globe. "End of the Road" set a new record for longevity, holding the number one spot on Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen weeks. Boyz II Men broke this record with the subsequent releases of " I'll Make Love to You " and " One Sweet Day " (with Mariah Carey ), which, at fourteen and sixteen weeks, respectively, each set new records for the total number of weeks at number one. "I'll Make Love to You" topped the charts in Australia for four weeks and garnered international success.
Consequently, Boyz II Men is among the music industry's elite with regard to time spent at number one in Billboard history - with 50 cumulative weeks. They rank sixth behind Drake , the Beatles , Rihanna , Elvis Presley and Carey. Furthermore, when " On Bended Knee " took the number one spot away from "I'll Make Love to You", Boyz II Men became only the third artists ever (after the Beatles and Presley) to replace themselves at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. These achievements were enough to earn Boyz II Men recognition as Billboard magazine's biggest boy band during the period of 1987 to 2012. Boyz II Men has received four Grammy Awards .
Boyz II Men continue to perform worldwide with their next big performance being in Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday June 10th 2023 and Kampala, Uganda on June 11th 2023.
